The second Any Given Reason Burger Meet

DSC_0291As the alarm went off at about 6am on Sunday morning, I awoke to a really odd sound. A constant, almost comforting patter. What was it? Ah yes, rain. And lots of of it. In my early morning stupor I came to the conclusion that I should just go back to sleep, and it probably will stop by the time I need to get up. 7am and the alarm buzzed again, and for some damned reason it was still raining. At least I wouldn’t need to wash the car I concluded, and promptly fell back asleep. Wintery mornings do not welcome the early bird.

DSC_0075Rewind a couple of weeks. After receiving some feedback from the first Burger Meet held on a Friday evening at Fancy Burger in Blackwood, I decided to try something a little different for the second Burger Meet. The main suggestions were that the location was less than inspiring, and that people wanted to go for a bit of a drive as well. So with sunny late summer hills mornings in mind the decision was made to hold the second Burger Meet on a Sunday morning in Mylor, with the burgers served up from the picturesque Harvest Cafe.

DSC_0370Gourmet breakfast burgers? Check. Picture-perfect surroundings? Check. Twisty driving roads to arrive at the venue? Check. Constant rain and freezing cold temperatures? Check. Damn. With this in mind I didn’t really expect a huge turnout, and I couldn’t really blame people for not coming. It takes a strong passion for cars to get out of a nice warm bed on such an awful Sunday morning.

The second AGR Burger Meet, to be held at Harvest Cafe Mylor

32Sunday April 21, 9.00am, Harvest Cafe, Mylor

The second Any Given Reason Burger Meet will be held in the picturesque township of Mylor in the Adelaide Hills from 9am on Sunday April 21. With a huge choice of some of the best driving roads in the state to get there and a special breakfast burger served by the lovely folks at the charming Harvest Cafe, it is shaping up to be a relaxing morning of all things automotive.

BM_2You’ll find Harvest Cafe at 240 Strathalbyn Road, on your right coming from Adelaide. Burger Meet will be utilizing the Mylor playground carpark, which is on your left a little further on from Harvest Cafe. Note – don’t go into the main oval entry; the playground entry is another hundred meters down the road. Look for the Skate Ramp sign.

BM-01The second Burger Meet will follow the same formula as the first – a whole bunch of car people standing around a carpark talking about cars, to the accompaniment of good burgers and coffee. And like last time, it doesn’t matter what you bring. Sports, modern, rally, race, Euro, Jap, American, stance, classic, vintage, motorbikes, hot rods, insane off-roaders – it’s all welcome so long as it’s just a little bit interesting.

BM_03You can read about the first Burger Meet here, and ask in the comments section if you’ve got any questions about the day. I look forward to seeing you all there!

The Any Given Reason Burger Meet

DSC_0288As all good things seem to be, the first Any Given Reason Burger Meet was born from a simple, almost flippant idea. Over conversation a couple of weeks ago, the point was raised to me that AGR has a really wide spectrum of readers – dedicated rally folk, hardened circuit racers, Euro car fanboys and Stance fanatics just to name a few. So why not get them all together, and attempt to create a melting pot of different styles for a little while?

DSC_0178A quick email to some close friends confirmed that people would probably be keen, and just like that, Burger Meet was on. We created a Facebook event and a whole bunch of people expressed their interest. It was a little concerning at the start – I didn’t even know if people would actually want to come, and within 24 hours it was looking bigger than we ever expected.

DSC_0121The premise for Burger Meet was pretty simple. We all met at a carpark in Blackwood within close proximity to a gourmet burger shop, and stood around talking about cars and eating burgers for a couple of hours. I was completely awestruck by how many people trusted the idea and came – we had over 60 cars and easily more than 100 people! And it wasn’t just the number of cars that surprised me; it was the diversity and quality that really blew me away.

The AGR Burger Meet – now at the Coles carpark

We’ve had a lot of really positive interest in the first Any Given Reason Burger Meet, so to make sure we’ve got enough space we’ve moved Burger Meet to a slightly bigger carpark just down the road. It’s still within easy walking distance of Fancy Burger, and the bushes and shrubs will make the meet a little less obvious to passing traffic.

The meet will still be on Friday November 30, 7pm, now at the Coles carpark, just down from Fancy Burger, 237 Main Road, Blackwood.  See you there!

You’re invited to the first Any Given Reason Burger Meet!

Friday November 30, 7pm, Coles carpark across and down the road from Fancy Burger, 237 Main Road, Blackwood

Summer’s on its way, and the beautiful warm evenings are here. So what could be better than standing around in a carpark, eating gourmet burgers and checking out cars on a Friday evening?

Any Given Reason has a really diverse range of readers with some great cars, so what we’re planning is a relaxed and casual Friday night meet in the Coles carpark across the road from Fancy Burger in Blackwood. For those that are unaware, Fancy Burger makes the best burgers in Adelaide, hands down. Combine that with a carpark full of interesting cars and you have the recipe for a fun night.

Burger Meet is inspired by the famous Cars and Coffee and KINOD gatherings in the States, where owners and enthusiasts gather to share their passion, regardless of what they drive. Euro, Jap or American. Classic or modern. Road, race or rally. It doesn’t matter what it is – bring it along for us all to see!

If you’re on Facebook, head over to the event page to RSVP, or email andrew@anygivenreason.com for more information.

See you there!
